Nightbringer (USA) – Terra Damnata 14.04.2017

Nightbringer (USA) – Terra Damnata 14.04.2017
Season Of Mist

Nightbringer from Colorado, USA was born in 1999 by Naas Alcameth who have or has a few other projects, like Akhlys; Bestia Arcana (with other Nightbringer members) and Nox Corvus who went to his own path. Now in 2017 after they ate a lot of members with a lot of split and four full length is a quintet including for example Menthor, who is the drummer in Lvcifyre and much more.

Five members in a Black Metal band never sounds too good and in case of Nightbringer is fairly true. United States created with great Death Metal bands, but only a few evaluable Black Metal bands. First, I think they really want to follow European Black Metal, but the well-known, mainstream way such as Dimmu Borgir; early Cradle Of Filth; late Emperor or newer Dark Funeral. Their music is too complex and want to be very evil, but they just uses boring, meaningless themes.

I acknowledge their knowledge in occult and music too, but not in creating of Black Metal. For that need something more to know in the dimensions of spiritual blackness. There were/are and will a lot of great Black Metal bands in whole world, but much more so called Black Metal bands whose don't understand the creativity of black

There are a lot of bands whose start their existence under the veil of any other “bigger” band, but can grow through above this child disease and from servant become the master. In case of Nightbringer was not so successful this event even they are at fifth full length.

Dense, complex music with a lot of keyboard. Including a lot of blastbeat, but also doomy slowing, ramming, shallow creeping. The only song that I can highlight is the sixth 'Inheritor of a Dying World' all other songs just for mainstream lovers.

Firespawn (SWE) – The Reprobate 28.04.2017

Firespawn (SWE) – The Reprobate 28.04.2017
Century Media Records

Firespawn was born in Sweden in 2014 as Fireborn, then one year later they changed their name to Firespawn. Nevertheless band members started decades ago in bands such as Necrophobic; Usurpress; Entombed A.D.; Dark Funeral..etc. One of them is L.G. Petrov who was the vocalist in cult bands such as Nihilist; Entombed and Morbid, where he played together with the best singer ever: Dead. What great stories could he tell!

Really when listen and review any album, not the members are important first, but the music and the releases.

Firespawn first bastard was the 7"EP called "Lucifer has spoken" in august 2015. Both song ('Lucifer Has spoken' and 'The emperor') got a visual release too that did a starting fire to Firespawn legion. First LP/CD “Shadow Realm” was released three months later in November the same year that has been re-released on CD in 2016 by Mazzar Records.

Eleven songs of “Shadow Realms” contained the two songs of the 7”EP and got a new video for the song 'All Hail' too. As song-titles spoken, Firespawn singing about the dark side.

When 'Serpent of the Ocean' started I was not disappointed. The music correctly fits to lyrics as brutal, but melodic, real headbanging Death Metal that for example Deicide knew in “Serpents/Insineratehymn” era. L.G. singing more brutal than ever, in 'Blood Eagle' the riffs in the middle of the song like a Slayer song from "Divine Intervention".

Intense, brutal, mainly mid-tempo, but faster parts are not alien for these guys around age of 45! As biography says, they lives in Death Metal everyday so Death Metal is in their veins. They are still hungry for brutality and that's an honor for the style and for the fans too.

These men played Death Metal when most of today fans were just a sperm and they still know and never left the way of left hand path. Obviously every band get any influences, especially if he wrote already a lot of songs, but counter to many old bands, they don't want to travel back in 60'/70' years when they were kids. Firespawn follow the path when they was a teenager and their mind and flesh are opened for the real way of Death Metal. Only Death is real!

“The Reprobate” is killer and brutal as Death Metal was in in mid 90's and needs attention. These guys will tear your spine out. 10 songs in nearly 43 minutes

Respect!

Windswept (UKR) – The Great Cold Steppe 31.03.2017

Windswept (UKR) – The Great Cold Steppe 31.03.2017

Three Ukrainian musician from Drudkh started a new project and written and recorded “The Great Cold Steppe” under three days only without any rehearsals.

The names are initials on this album, but I know that R is Roman Sayenko who is a very talented and known musician in Ukrainian scene. Then K is Krechet who played bass and V is Vlad who played the drums. Counter to the mother band here is not any keyboard just the usual guitar – bass – drums and vocals.

It was a very great idea to create Windswept as it can summon the ancient spirit of Black Metal. Triumphant and atmospheric guitar themes, blastbeat drums and hateful vocals features on this nearly 34 minutes long album. Instead of evil themes, Windswept is natural and cold just the Great Cold Steppe. They are in harmony with the grim forces of nature, like blizzard, storm, frozen trees, ice-cold winds.

Nature can be evil, but evil is natural in nature as in the movie Antichrist said:”Nature is Satan's church”. These are universal and ancient secrets.

The six songs inspired by Eastern land during winter and I think it is so great and beautiful as every winter. The whole album is like a marching, fast and melodic without any resting.

Every instruments can be heard clearly, the sound is good. There is no choice, than to buy this album by Season Of Mist.

Earth Electric (NOR-POR) – Vol.1: Solar 12.05.2017

Earth Electric (NOR-POR) – Vol.1: Solar 12.05.2017
Season Of Mist

Leginkább a Magyar Solaris-hoz tudnám hasonlítani a zenéjüket. Avantgárd témák kavarognak csillagporral és tejúti messzeséggel.

Régi zene új köntösben. Az első 'Meditate Mediate’ dal még hordoz magában némi vadságot, de azt is nagyban enyhíti Carmen vokálja. A 'Mountains & Conquerors pt. II’ inkább a technikára épül. Egy kicsit olyan mint néhány újabb Satyricon dal, mely köré felépítették a női éneket, szintetizátort.
A 'The Endless Road’ pedig egy abszolút kavargó darab.

Természetesen a hangzással nincs semmi gond.

Necrowretch (FRA) – Satanic Slavery 14.04.2017

Necrowretch (FRA) – Satanic Slavery 14.04.2017
Season Of Mist

Since previous „With Serpents Scourge” LP from 2015,Necrowretch left Century Media Records and signed to Season Of Mist. Also K. Desecrator came back to the band, but not as a drummer anymore. He became the second guitarist for the band.

In the past two years Necrowretch played on a lot of tours and live shows around the world. Infection so done visually too.

Necrowretch also featured in the second issue of my physical 'zine with a short, but great interview and I did reviews online for previous LP and EP “Even Death May Die”. I was not disappointed when I started to listening Satanic Slavery. It's still a Putrid old school Death Metal with some Black Metal influence – especially in the fourth 'Evil Names' song where the riffs can be placed on a Nordic Black metal album too and of course Vlad's voice is more cruel than some Black Metal voice. Vlad’s voice is still evil as hellfire, and Ilmar can plays on drums faster than two other drummer

Satanic Slavery contains eight songs in an average of 4 minutes so the full album is more than 38 minutes long – or short, because Necrowretch plays that kinda stuff where the time runs fast and the listener want to be more pain.

Satan worship is still the main theme for the evil priest called Necrowretch and I think that it is trustworthy. No doubt that an evil atmosphere can be perceptible while listening Necrowretch music. Yes it has some influences from the past, like the intensity of Slayer, the infernal fire of ancient eastern bands and Vlad wrote some eastern riffs but all of these things makes Necrowretch a very powerful evil and putrid band that need to worship.

No wait to buy this masterpiece, “Satanic Slavery” will be enslave you

Ysengrin /Sartegos (Fra/Spa) – Resvrrezionespiritval split MC April 2017

Ysengrin /Sartegos (Fra/Spa) – Resvrrezionespiritval split MC April 2017
Caverna Abismal Records

Ysengrin from France born in 2005 to create Occult, hermetic Death Metal or so called Dark Metal. After one demo in 2008,they are over a lot of official releases like two full length and a lot of split.

“Resvrrectionspiritval” is the second volume of the four split that Ysengrin would like to release. The first one was released in 2015 called “Nigrum Nigrius Nigro” and it was a split with Chilean Black Grail.

“Resvrrectionspiritval” was released already at I, Voidhanger Records on 12” Vinyl and the other band now is Sartegos from Spain who was born in 2008. Sartegos is a duo and plays Occult Black/Death Metal. They released two demos and an EP before this split so they are the younger band. While on previous split Black Grail has only one track in 15 minutes long, now both bands plays 3 songs.

Of course, the split is start with Ysengrin's side and a cold keyboard intro that creeping into a slow/mid-tempo, doomic Death Metal song. 'Nel Candore Lvnare' is dark, where the drums and growls are in front and guitar is very weak. Bass, keyboard and choir color the atmosphere. A simple song but it has a weird remembrance and ends with female vox.

Second 'Daemonalba' is just a medieval guitar-playing while the closing 'Solar Birth' is like Therion meets with Celtic Frost. The song has more avant-garde than first song. A bit like Mortuary Drape.

Sartegos starts with 'As Asas Do Morcego' that is a horror music like intro. Second 'Umha Danca De Estrelas Dargas' is a mid-tempo Death Metal song from early 90's demo era. Ending 'Ele Viu as Suas Maos' is like a Swedish Death Metal demo from early 90'.

All in all, this split has a weird, occult atmosphere that left from nowadays scene.Very interesting to listening it and remember. So I think, that this split was a good choice as both band created something special and united for the summoning of old spirit. For younger people needs to merge into it. The cover shows a cemetery scene so it fits correctly to the music.

/I can say for Hungarian fans only, that this split is like a pulled to pieces Cultic Pulp from their second demo. It's sad that the demo never been released officially, but also for their fans needs to get this releas/

Tod Huetet Uebel (POR) – N. A. D. A May 2017

Tod Huetet Uebel (POR) – N. A. D. A May 2017
Caverna Abismal Records

A bit earlier I already wrote a review about THU previous release “Malicia”, so I don't think that they need introduction. The Portuguese duo will be come back with a new EP in May 2017, that I got from Caverna Abismal Records.

The first thing, that I can perceive, is the sound of this EP called “
N. A. D. A.”.It's much better than before, even “Malicia” wasn't a bad sounding album. Fortunately the sound for THU isn't a bad decision. The destructive, misanthropic feelings can penetrate through the music. Tod Huetet Uebel still a great band, and the shining star on the blackened sky of Iberian Peninsula.N. A. D. A. contains two songs in 21 minutes. First song is 'Nå' that is the continue of previous material. Intensive, but tormenting Black Metal music with Marcos’ angry screams. All instruments are on the right place. If you like for example Dark Funeral, you will like this song. (Even THU plays now better music, than DF did on their last album).

Second 'Da' is much more other and special, than 'Nå'. First, this song is more than 17 minutes long. First half is agonizing pain, than Hungarian Veér. Then Sofia join and a flying journey starts. Her voice is (sorry if I err) similar to Dim' voice who is the artist of Hungarian
Tymah. May I will check her band Vaee Solis.
Atmospheric and experimental pieces replaced with whirlwind fast tempo, then changed again to flow into the endless deep and madness.

It's fantastic to listening to 'Nå' again as it's start suddenly after the last whispers of 'Da'.

Dreamers of black, worshipers of death I invoke you to paying attention to this genial duo. I think that artwork of Maxime Taccardi was the best choice to this release. Lethal and bloody in the same time as music of THU.

Vampire (SWE) – With Primeval Force 21.04.2017

Vampire (SWE) – With Primeval Force 21.04.2017
Century Media Records

Vampire is a being who is feeding from the blood of the living, mostly known in Transylvanian folklore like Dracula. Nowadays since 18th century, vampire gradually became a romantic character, with nice pale face.

Vampire also a Swedish quintet arose from Gothenburg back in 2011 to keep the ancient vampire traditions, when Vampire was an evil form. In that year there were only three: Hand Of Doom-vocals, guitars; Black String-guitars and Command-bass. The demo simply called “Vampire” came out in 2012 limited to 200 copies, but it was enough to notice Century Media Records.

First full length already released by Century Media with the same title in 2014. For this LP Ratwing joined as drummer. I can categorize that album, that a mixture of Celtic Frost/Possessed playing faster and Vampire itself, surrounded by the black mist that comes only from Sweden and that voice that reminds me to Erik's voice (Watain). Nonetheless, Vampire isn't just a newer copy band or simply retro.

Until now only a few EP was released since their first LP, but Condor brothers joined, so the full line up was: Hand Of Doom-vocal; Black String-guitar; Command-bass; Abysmal Condor-drums and Sepulchral Condor-guitars.

I'm not sure about the present correct line-up. Maybe Ratwing came back or Condor brothers remained. Anyway Vampire will come back with an amazing second album, that contains 9 songs of true Nordic Thrash Metal. Yes, there are inspirations from the end of the '80's like Destruction or newer like Aura Noir or Dissection and fourth 'Skull Prayer' is the song that such an extra song from first Tormentor (HUN) demo.

Even I worship Vampire's work. There are a lot of bands and there aren't too many new things in music, but other things is just copying or playing with loyalty. Vampire is the one that play songs with blood and soul. The sound is great and bewitching. I'm in the present and the past at the same time, when I listening to “With Primeval Force”.

The Swedish warriors did a great stuff again that compel you to buy this LP on vinyl for the perfect atmosphere. Not to mention that amazing cover, where a monster unify the earth and the sky. Look upon the bat wings..gently caress your soul to call...

Replacire (USA) – Do Not Deviate 17.03.2017

Replacire (USA) – Do Not Deviate 17.03.2017
Season Of Mist

Boston, Massachusetts, year 2010. Evan Anderson Berry (vocals) and Eric Alper (guitars) decided that they create a band, were they can indulge to their musical talent. Alex Stallings joined on bass and Blaize Collard on drums. Stephen Pierce also joined on guitars, so this quintet recorded their first album in 2012 entitled “The Human Burden”.

I think that the album was self released on CD so they didn't get too much support from the musical industry. The eight songs represented a progressive Death Metal band in original way.

Now, five years later, they signed to Season Of Mist, but also they are over a few line-up changes. Zach Baskin replaced Alex on bass, while the drummer plays with them only on live-shows. He is Kendal 'Pariah' Divoll from Necronomichrist and also there is a live guitarist namely Kee Poh Hock. If we look upon their past, nobody from the line-up played in a “pure” band so they played in Deathcore, Symphonic folk, Crust..etc bands. I think that the innovation is very important for all the members.

Eleven songs in more than 38 minutes signs, that not the longest songwriters are they, even they play such music that can be twice or thrice more long in an other style. In the last years so they didn't idle. A lot of bands jumped into my mind while I listened “Do Not Deviate”. Starting with bands like Nocturnus, Voivod, early Carcass, later Death, Cynic just to mention a few, but with this they created a very different and original way. Really a lot of riffs are in each songs, so they absolutely do not let you sleep. You can't digest the first song, the next already in your way.

There are four songs in the beginning with brutal vocals, spiced with some clear singing, and a lot of outstanding, including bass. Every instruments and riffs heard clearly in a professional sound. The fourth 'Any Promise' ending as an outro, so I think these four songs separated a bit from other songs. Next 'Cold Repeater' starting with piano (as an intro) that comes back later in the song, also this song based on more piece. After the sixth 'Reprise' that is a piano piece the songs are a bit more progressive. So don't worry about titles,'cause the ninth 'Spring Song’ isn't a romantic song.

Yeah, they do not deviate from their way of progression, so if you like progressiveness in brutal, do not hesitate to buy. Available in CD and Gatefold LP in various colors.

Sólstafir (ICE) – Ísafold 26.05.2017

Sólstafir (ICE) – Ísafold 26.05.2017
Season Of Mist

Another unusual review reached the life of Svbterranean Tenebris as 'Ísafold' is only one song that will appear on "Berdreyminn" in May 2017.I can promise that this is the first such criticism and also the last, because I will just write about whole materials in the future.

Land of fire and ice, frozen north, Iceland... thanks to some outstanding bands lately, Icelandic music culture was very much to the fore and for that matter, I am sure that the whole of Iceland, along with all of it.

Traditions are very important for us and it is well-known that a lot of tradition in Iceland was able to remain intact over the centuries. Sólstafir also associated to traditions, because unless their lyrics does not even know for sure we know that this band uses Icelandic language from their beginning as a means of expression in their music.

I must admit, that I met with Sólstafir with their „Til Valhallar” EP, that was released back in ’96 which contained raw Viking / Black music. Certainly not the joyful breed, so they could not take me to follow their careers.

Now 20 years late
r, Sólstafir still matter traditional, but they fully left their Viking/Black self. This is probably due to that the original line-up only Adalbjörn Tryggvason (vocals, guitar) are present in the band's life. We can also say that they totally learned to deal with their instruments and expressing emotions with them.

The granting of emotions can play an important role in the life of Sólstafir. They can not just play the songs, but also to make it into both their minds and their hearts. Trve Black Metal fans will not like
them, but all of those, who can look over the reality, and fully appreciate the brightly shining moon, the floating mist, the rippling lakes, sunset, the forest... and beyond.

Musically reminds me to Devil's Blood at the first evoking guitar/drum sound
s, yet they are an other band. In addition to the basic instruments, they are uses brasses, strings and piano that enrich their magickal work. It's a foggy, mysterious, psychedelic rock music from Iceland, which should receive attention.

I hope that 'Ísafold' isn't will be their best
track, so I recommend everyone to buy this album when it will be out.

Svart Crown (FRA) – Abreaction 03.03.2017

Svart Crown (FRA) – Abreaction 03.03.2017
Century Media Records

I confess honestly have not been many French band were in my way even there are a lot so writing a review about a French record is always a specialty. Century Media Records sent me the surprise that is the fourth full length of Svart Crown.

Svart Crown was created by JB Le Bail in 2004 even the name was born in mind of Clément Flandrois years before creation. This is an interesting name if Svart means black in Norwegian, while crown is in English...unique.

Above mentioned Clément was a member from 2008 to 2015 so he isn't a member of S. C. Anymore and all other members left the band except JB and the second bassist Ludovic Veyssiére who joined in 2006. The following members of the quartet are well-known in the French scene as they are from the Death/Thrash legend Agressor as Kevin Verlay guitarist and drum-master Kévin Paradis. So it is no exaggeration to say that Svart Crown consist of qualified members.

First release was a demo, called “Bloody Crown” 2 years later that re-released in different cover. JB chosen a unique way for the unique name...and a long rugged way...because now,13 years after the creation, ”Abreaction”' is just their fourth full length.

Continuing in their work, their first full length, called “Ages Of Decay” was released via little french label Rupture Music in 2008 then 2 years later they signed to Listenable Records where two album was released:”Witnessing The Fall” in 2010 (that was re-released in 2012 as 12” vinyl at the same label) and “Profane” in 2013 (that re-released in the same years on 12” vinyl at the same label). Listenable Records is not unknown for me, even i
t is focusing mainly on Death /Thrash and Modern(what a stupid utterance) Metal.

Rugged way so maybe the result of a (or more) bad choice, but hopefully now, when they signed to Century Media Records, Svart Crown may start to rule the world.

Svart Crown is one of the bands that releases really full length albums, but this new one “Abreaction” will be over fifty minutes long. Eleven song, eleven abnormal and perverse nightmare from mind of main m
an, vocalist
/guitarist JB.

The main theme of the album (I think) the voodoo ceremonies, so skulls on the front cover that drew by Stefan Thanneur again is not a surprise.

First song is 'Golden Sacrament' that start with a slow, doom song with whispers, then become a headbanging and emotional piece, but ending too short. Next 'Carcosa' is a fast, technical madness with some slower, standing themes. 3rd 'The Past – To The Devil His Due' is a slower storming song with some Morbid Angel influence from “Domination” era. A bit like a film music for some thriller movie. Also this is the longest song with it's 7
’21” long. 'Upon This Intimate Madness” is a technical, extreme song, with slower, long-drawn themes and screams.

Fifth 'Khimba Rites' for that song a lyric video has made by Century Media Records is a slower song influenced a bit by Behemoth.'Tentacion' is the outsider song as this is instrumental. 7th 'Orgasmic Spiritual
Ecstasy’ is a medley as contains faster, mid-tempo and slower themes. Next 'Transsubstantiation' is again a Morbid Angel influenced song. Ninth 'Emphatic Illusion' is one of the most simple and morbid song that JB wrote for this album. Next 'Lwas' is an instrumental song again, while the last 'Nganda' is the first song that includes more solo.

“Abreaction” is a well-written album, and even it's not contains two quint themes, more a technical and varied chords, it is absolute enjoyable. I think, that this more than 54 minutes long album will get a worthy reputation to Svart Crown. Fans of extreme metal get in touch with Century Media to purchase the album on CD Digipak, Gatefold LP + CD, or Digital Album.

Witchery (SWE) – In His Infernal Majesty's Service 25.11.2016

Witchery (SWE) – In His Infernal Majesty's Service 25.11.2016
Century Media Records

It was twenty years ago, when Witchery was born in Linköping, Sweden upon the ashes of Satanic Slaughter. Their way was the blackened and melodic Death/Thrash line, that famous in the Swedish land. This long time existence explain their loyalty towards music.

We can say that the band initially were fruitful and unbroken until 2001 when their 3rd full length „Symphony For The Devil” has been released. After it more than four years was between their releases, so their last was „Witchkrieg” in 2010. It was so six years before „In His Infernal Majesty’s Service” recorded in three different studios.

Their line-up has been changed since the beginning, so this album is a debut for the drummer Christopher Barkensjö (LIK) and vocalist Angus Norder (NEKROKRAFT) but there was members also Legion (Marduk), Emperor Magus Caligula (Dark Funeral) and so a few other from the cream of extreme line. The former members also plays or played in other bands like Mercyful Fate, The Haunted; Arch Enemy or Seance

Witchery originally signed to Necropolis Records, but since the 2006 LP 'Don't Fear The Reaper’ they are under the sign of Century Media Records.10 years after (and twenty years after their birth) “In His Infernal Majesty's Service” has been released on CD and 12” vinyl.

Eleven song lie low under this majestic front cover in 38 minutes, with varied melodies but with a strong influence of Slayer intensity. Angus' screams are properly angry and evil but a bit one-sided. The themes played by veins not from soul, so they can't fascinate me, but I think they could arise me on live shows. Many themes are familiar for me, but it's not a novelty so it's unimportant.. My favorite songs are the 4th Nosferatu, the 5th The Burning Of Salem, and the 6th Gilded Fang.

If we look that the band exist since twenty years and In His Infernal Majesty's Service is the sixth release I can say that this is a great and strong album. Also unique in their style with their interests and intensity. Congratulation!

The album has been released as CD and 12" vinyl and CD version includes also 2 more tracks from the last Witchkrieg era. Look upon the web page of Century Media Records to purchase this album.

Viles Vitae (POR) – IV 13.02.2017
Caverna Abismal Records

The three Lusitanian warriors(Vulturius – Vocals; Belial Necro – Guitars and Deimos – Drums) purposed to conquer the four principal elements on this EP that is so simply called as IV. In numerology this will be the magickal seven (3 members,4 songs). If we put the amazing and obscure artwork of Fábio Infante upon it, we can prepare ourselves to a black journey into nowhere.

The ritual will be take a form of CD via Caverna Abismal Records in the mid of February 2017 so for me this is a gift before the feast of the dead.

Viles Vitae (means worthless life) consists of experienced members. I think that maybe they comes from other style, that did Hypocrisy with The Abyss or so, but I don't know too much information about them and I don't want to reveal the veil of obscure.

As I wrote before the EP consists of four
songs, but let's start with the beginning.”The Vortex Of Disharmony" starts with wind whispers then with marching drums they arise with atmospheric guitar harmonies and various drum themes. Already here I can mention a band's name that is no other than the Hungarian De Profundis when they plays their raw side. Of course there aren't any other band. Viles Vitae is quite original in it’s own style. Hoc erat in principio tenebrarum..

Second „Sunless Redeemer” starts with fire crackle and some melody, then devastating Black Metal with blasting drums and cymbals. The melody also atmospheric. This is one of my favorite song on this EP. Not too original but overwhelming like the flames the covers the temples.

Third „Source Life Extinction” starts with rain and thunder crack. This is a slower title with simple riffs, even the scream of Vulturius heard so much more evil, than in other songs.

Fourth „Theorie of Deconstruction” is the song of the earth. The mood of this song reminds me to first Kampfar album. Absolutely not evil, but fine melodic and very familiar for me. Also it has a rock'n rollish piece with starting ugghh. Best song for dancers in the shows if VV plan to prepare a few.

I forgot to mention that in every end of the songs can be listen a Latin speaks that seems very familiar to Mortiis voice in „Anden som „. Yes, they used maybe the same technical also the EP ending with wolf howling and female choirs.

Vulturius's voice is fitting well to the music and the others are plays as need to be. If they will be continue the work, than we can observe the rising of a more original and talented horde emerging from Lusitanian sands.

Evil Priest (Peru) – Evil Priest CD 23.01.2017

Evil Priest (Peru) – Evil Priest CD 23.01.2017
Caverna Abismal Records

Evil Priest was born in Lima, Peru during the year 2015. According to my information Evil Priest Consists of two members: R. P.-drums and E. P. – guitars, vocals, but on their promo photo, there is a third guy. The band recorded their first demo on 15 July 2016 via Caligari Records, on cassette, limited to 150 copies. Of course the band consists of three members and plays also live shows with Sadistic Intent for example.

Now, less than one year later, Caverna Abismal Records will release their demo again and it will be available on CD format limited to 500 copies.

The self titled demo contains four titles including an intro titled 'Ikarus’,- that is a ritual Peruvian Indian chant I think – with some forest noises and bells. If you think, that Evil Priest is based on traditions, then you are right.

First song is 'Great Snake’ that is a traditional Death/Black song from late 80's/early 90's with blasting beats and technical guitar playing. The sound is sufficiently brutal and old school. Next 'Gates Of Beyond’ has a bit more tempo changes and so a bit chaotic but in a good sense.

Last and title track 'Evil Priest’ is a really wild and brutal song (the best for live shows).

In summary, E. P. begotten a nostalgic and fine demonstration, even it's not too original and it seems that they need a bit progression. Yet they are passing on the right way. I wish them endurance to the future.

Tod Huetet Uebel /POR/ – Malicia 23 04 2016

Tod Huetet Uebel /POR/ – Malicia 23 04 2016
Caverna Abismal Records

I will now present the material of another new
Portuguese band in the next few lines. Tod Huetet Uebel duo conceived in 2012 and already a year later they recorded their debut EP titled:”Morte e Caos”. Probably both of them (Daniel C – composer and Marcos M – singer) were active before at home or in other bands, because they plays together very well In addition, some uniqueness is also reflected in their creation. Even though I didn't heard their EP until now and three years passed since.

The newly released tape material previously released on CD by Caverna Ab
ismal Records. The 2015 "Malice" contains seven songs without a title, is only marked with Roman numerals. The album starts with acoustic introduction, that full out into bombastic Black Metal. The real themes are lost in the fast and the songs become chaotic very often, but the themes are sufficiently unique.

The overwhelming songs can be complete with
Marcos’ unbelievable, crazy screams. There is a kind of one-dimensional because of the many fast parts, but glancing behind the songs, death and misanthropy split their wings, so much so that I could not even imagine that I listen it in companies or even on live shows.(except in a little cavern).

The creation of Death Guards Evil (translated from
German) can not be said as traditional although no doubt that Black Metal is basic pillars.

Modern and
evil, desolate, but full of tangled dreams, that may be associated to the emerging hordes of present days. Thanx to Daniel’ recording, mixing and mastering, the sound is appropriate. Nothing is too far in front or in the background.

If someone wants some outstanding
work, search in the depth of underground. They found me and I found them. Thanks for the Caverna Abismal Records that introduced me to the THU manifestation. Hail Khaos!

Ravensire /POR/ The Cycle Never Ends 18.06.2016

Ravensire /POR/ The Cycle Never Ends 18.06.2016
Caverna Abismal Records

I wrote already a little bit review about the music of Ravensire apropos of Caverna Ab
ismal Records’ first festival, called: Masmorra Fest. I got also their latest whole album „The Cycle Never Ends” as it will be re-release on cassette at the same time. It is a re-release, because it has been released already on CD in February and on 12” Vinyl in March 2016.

Ravensire is a
Portuguese Heavy metal quartet that has been born in 2011 and until this time they released an EP (Iron Will,2012) an LP (We March Forward,2013) and a split 7” with Terminus in 2013. The band curiosity, that this band is the project of Filii Nigrantium Infernalium bassist Helregni alias Rick Thor. So he is an omnivorous metal guy as he has also a Thrash band (Perpetratör).

No need to
wonder, that Ravensire is a music of talented musicians. All members play his instruments very well and able to create that they want: an epic Heavy Metal band.

The beginning of first track 'Cromlech Revelations’ is very similar to the above mentioned track, that is the Ravensire side of split 7”. So galloping guitar themes and a big Running Wild influence. Braveness and heroism flooding from this song.

Next 'Crosshaven ' is a bit more simply and has a Viking -like feeling. Probably this song inspired the drawing of cover where a Viking warrior visible in the front of a village as he going into the wood. Simply, but melodic song.

Third 'Solitary Vagrant’ is a bit faster song, but I don't feel any plus feeling from it. However the fourth 'Procession Of The Dead’ that is a bit dark song as the title suggest. A little bit remind me to some Vanity era Celtic Frost. There is a little acoustic theme with
Latin speech. Excuse me, but this is my favorite song until now even when I was a child maybe the first song would have been my fave and Procession Of The Dead maybe like any distant memory.

Fifth 'Trapped In Dreams’ sounds like it is a reborn (from the dead) with full of energy and new aspects. Also I think, that this is the end of a chapter as next three song is a concept that got a main
title: White Pillars Trilogy.

First 'Eternal Sun’, is a bit like tale and can give a vision with simple metal instruments like guitar, drum, bass and
voice. I can say the same about next two songs ('Blood and Gold’;Temple at the End of the World’) This new 'chapter’ is like the hymns of Manowar or Rhapsody that can lead us into the battlefields of ancient ages...and Ravensire can too. Open a book of ancient history and listen to Ravensire. It will be uplifting.

Dark Funeral (SWE) – Where shadows forever reign 03.06.2016

Dark Funeral (SWE) – Where shadows forever reign CD/LP/Digital album 03.06.2016
Century Media Records

Could not be completely fine around the house of this Swedish band, that formed in 1993, as the subject of this review is only the sixth full-length material in the line. That is not certain for membership, as only Lord Ahriman is the member of this horde from the original line up.

I personally knew of Dark Funeral with the "Secrets..." material, that completely captivated me with it's raw, simple wickedness. The primitive simplicity that characterized the disc to me a lack of current materials, which are based on the technique rather than the surrender of true feeling. It may, of course, is brilliant virtuosity materials to prepare, but the technique often go due to the reality.

2009 also was a long time ago, when their material “Angelus Exuro pro Eternus” saw a daylight, no wonder, then, that the line up can be greatly changed. The early fans can be missing two members too, but I assure you, that Heljarmadr can be out of place in the vocal field. Bassist probably worked again Lord Ahriman, although the information sheet, that I received with the disc, does not mention bass player.

The purchasers of the last year single “Nail Them To The Cross” had an insight already into the album and some may be a clue about what I write, although there has even been a bass player called Natt.

The nine songs, nine scourges from Sweden and I, for my part way very glad to hear Heljarmadr organ here, although I hope he does not want to stand and then removed the rest of his other bands (Gra; Cursed 13) neglected.

Maybe it's not surprising to mention “Secrets Of The Black Arts” in the way of this disc, since the cover drew by Necrolord is similar and maybe can also be considered "Where Shadows Reign Forever" album like a new start.

"Where Shadows Forever Reign" can be qualify a typical Swedish mastermind with full of melody and super fast ride as in my favorite 'Beast above men’,which greatly contributes the talented drummer, Dominator. Another favorite is "To carve another wound ', which produces Heljarmadr most evil self and I can mention last but not least the title track, that a bit reminds me to the ancient Dark Funeral.

However, "Secrets..." fans will not like it, because its primitive crudity has gone by the departure of Blackmoon and with the second album.

I can not mention new features: Dark Funeral is simply Dark Funeral, nothing more, nothing less. Collectors recommended to obtain the CD or LP version via Century Media Records.

The Shrine (USA) – Rare Breed 10.30.2015

The Shrine USA) – Rare Breed 10.30.2015
Century Media Records

The Californian The Shrine strikes back again with their new album via Century Media Records. This young three-piece band has launched their first demo „Bless Off” in September, four years ago. So The Shrine is a young band but they plays like old ones, because this music is a long journey into the time of 70's music. Of course it is not just a retro stuff or a simple copy of bands like Black Sabbath. Many times it has a punkish rock'n roll music with hard rock/heavy metal influences.

The magic of psychedelic atmosphere swing through the whole album, but all in all it is a hilarious, party music with full of positive feelings. The Shrine is not an overdose of trend, but an original band, that deserves the attention.

"Rare Breed" will be contains eleven songs and will be out near to the eve of Samhain this year. Fans of Black Sabbath, Motörhead will be glad to this event, but I think there will be an attention to a wider mass

Grave (SWE) – Out Of Respect For The Dead 09.18.2015

Grave (SWE) – Out Of Respect For The Dead 09.18.2015
Century Media Records

It was the year 1988 when Grave has opened for this
world, created the way of absolute Swedish Death Metal. Many think that this band are big now and so mainstream, but they always remained an underground band in my opinion.

Yea
h, they are over a lot of full length album, also different boxed sets and compilation, but they still exist and unbroken vomit their Death Metal stench.”Out Of Respect For The Dead” will be their eleventh full length.

I remember faintly the compilation „In The Eyes Of Death” from 199
1, when I first heard them. 1991 was a great year for Death Metal masterpieces. But I'm not a historian and I don't want to dissect the past.

There are slowly and some faster
pieces, but putrefy as need to a real Death Metal album, and even the sound is much cleaner, than in the first album, but it's still Swedish.

As alway
s, there will be a limited edition of boxed set including their „Morbid Ascent” EP from 2013. Grave fans shall be ready!

Barren Earth (FIN) – On Lonely Towers 30. 03. 2015

Barren Earth (FIN) – On Lonely Towers 30. 03. 2015
Century Media Records

Barren Earth comes from the Finnish capital Helsinki and ex-AMORPHIS bassist Olli-Pekka Laine brought to life in 2007. The predecessor and the music knowledge of other experienced members, whose came from bands like Moonsorrow or Kreator, in addition to younger bands, has done its work, because after one demo released in 2008 hired them on Peaceville Records.

The early years proved to be productive in the history of the band, which confirmed the previous three materials (Our Twilight EP in 2009, Curse of the Red River LP 2010 and LP 2012 The Devil's Resolve). The Finnish team for the past three years has replaced the vocalist Mikko Kotamäki to Jón Aldárá,who has arrived at the place at the beginning of 2014 who include Hamferd was still active. Thus, the sextet is now as follows: Olli-Pekka Laine
bass; Kasper Martensonkeyboard; Marko Tarvonendrums; Sami Yli-Sirniölead guitar; Janne Perttilarhythm guitar and Jón Aldárávocals. This lineup recorded the new album, which will be released in late March already at Century Media Records.

The nearly 60-minutes material was recorded at Finnvox Studios recorded
, while the mastering was done at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, which resulted an excellent job of sound, although the drums beat a little in the background. If you are someone who has experience in the Death / Doom styles, you have roughly know what you can expect to listen on the "On Lovely Towers" album, but Barren Earth goes beyond style borders and although many band names I remembered  when listening the material when listening to, a surprisingly good mix kneaded together, which not miss the progressiveness of classical music, but some folk, or a dash of speed grind detail either.

According to the biography "On Lonely Towers" is a conceptual matte
r, which is about a little girl and a hunter that seems on the sublime front-cover. showing their adventurous life. Really enjoy it ourselves, a film spins in this one hour, but of course if we get the material on vinyl and reading the lyrics. Jón vocal cords can produce the same deep growls like clean vocals, that worthy crown the guitar riffs. Here, it does not really matter if we are into brutality, because in many cases, more will be given radio suspicious themes.
