Barren
Earth comes from the Finnish capital Helsinki and ex-AMORPHIS bassist
Olli-Pekka Laine brought to life in 2007. The predecessor and the
music knowledge of other experienced members,
whose came from bands like Moonsorrow or Kreator, in addition to
younger bands,
has done its work, because after one demo released in 2008 hired them
on Peaceville Records.
The early years proved to be productive in the history of the band, which confirmed the previous three materials (Our Twilight EP in 2009, Curse of the Red River LP 2010 and LP 2012 The Devil's Resolve). The Finnish team for the past three years has replaced the vocalist Mikko Kotamäki to Jón Aldárá,who has arrived at the place at the beginning of 2014 who include Hamferd was still active. Thus, the sextet is now as follows: Olli-Pekka Laine – bass; Kasper Martenson – keyboard; Marko Tarvonen – drums; Sami Yli-Sirniö – lead guitar; Janne Perttila – rhythm guitar and Jón Aldárá – vocals. This lineup recorded the new album, which will be released in late March already at Century Media Records.
The nearly 60-minutes material was recorded at Finnvox Studios recorded, while the mastering was done at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, which resulted an excellent job of sound, although the drums beat a little in the background. If you are someone who has experience in the Death / Doom styles, you have roughly know what you can expect to listen on the "On Lovely Towers" album, but Barren Earth goes beyond style borders and although many band names I remembered when listening the material when listening to, a surprisingly good mix kneaded together, which not miss the progressiveness of classical music, but some folk, or a dash of speed grind detail either.
According to the biography "On Lonely Towers" is a conceptual matter, which is about a little girl and a hunter that seems on the sublime front-cover. showing their adventurous life. Really enjoy it ourselves, a film spins in this one hour, but of course if we get the material on vinyl and reading the lyrics. Jón vocal cords can produce the same deep growls like clean vocals, that worthy crown the guitar riffs. Here, it does not really matter if we are into brutality, because in many cases, more will be given radio suspicious themes.
