Dark Funeral (SWE) – Where shadows forever reign 03.06.2016

Dark Funeral (SWE) – Where shadows forever reign CD/LP/Digital album 03.06.2016
Century Media Records

Could not be completely fine around the house of this Swedish band, that formed in 1993, as the subject of this review is only the sixth full-length material in the line. That is not certain for membership, as only Lord Ahriman is the member of this horde from the original line up.

I personally knew of Dark Funeral with the "Secrets..." material, that completely captivated me with it's raw, simple wickedness. The primitive simplicity that characterized the disc to me a lack of current materials, which are based on the technique rather than the surrender of true feeling. It may, of course, is brilliant virtuosity materials to prepare, but the technique often go due to the reality.

2009 also was a long time ago, when their material “Angelus Exuro pro Eternus” saw a daylight, no wonder, then, that the line up can be greatly changed. The early fans can be missing two members too, but I assure you, that Heljarmadr can be out of place in the vocal field. Bassist probably worked again Lord Ahriman, although the information sheet, that I received with the disc, does not mention bass player.

The purchasers of the last year single “Nail Them To The Cross” had an insight already into the album and some may be a clue about what I write, although there has even been a bass player called Natt.

The nine songs, nine scourges from Sweden and I, for my part way very glad to hear Heljarmadr organ here, although I hope he does not want to stand and then removed the rest of his other bands (Gra; Cursed 13) neglected.

Maybe it's not surprising to mention “Secrets Of The Black Arts” in the way of this disc, since the cover drew by Necrolord is similar and maybe can also be considered "Where Shadows Reign Forever" album like a new start.

"Where Shadows Forever Reign" can be qualify a typical Swedish mastermind with full of melody and super fast ride as in my favorite 'Beast above men’,which greatly contributes the talented drummer, Dominator. Another favorite is "To carve another wound ', which produces Heljarmadr most evil self and I can mention last but not least the title track, that a bit reminds me to the ancient Dark Funeral.

However, "Secrets..." fans will not like it, because its primitive crudity has gone by the departure of Blackmoon and with the second album.

I can not mention new features: Dark Funeral is simply Dark Funeral, nothing more, nothing less. Collectors recommended to obtain the CD or LP version via Century Media Records.
